A Touch of Understanding relies on volunteers and donations to make our programs available to children throughout the region. Because we are a nonprofit, you can be sure that your contribution will be used to benefit the community, and it's tax-deductible to the full extent allowed (contact your tax advisor for specific information.) Many companies offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations. Some provide matching funds to support employee volunteer hours. Most of these programs match contributions dollar for dollar, and some will even double or triple the amount of your gift!
Please check with your company to see if it offers a matching gift program that will match your gift or volunteer hours to A Touch of Understanding. If your employer requires an Employer Identification Number (EIN) (i.e. Federal Tax Identification Number), please use 68-0389777.
You may mail your completed matching gift form to:
A Touch of Understanding 5280 Stirling Street, Suite 102 Granite Bay, CA 96746
Your personal gift and matched contribution will be credited to the program or event location that you designated.
If you have questions about matching gifts please call 916-791-4146 or email

Planned Giving- Wills, Trusts and Annuities
With a planned gift to A Touch of Understanding, you can combine your desire to give to charity with your overall financial, tax, and estate planning goals. Your planned gift gives you a special connection with ATOU. You can continue to ‘make a difference’ for children in years to come by making a contribution to ATOU through a charitable bequest.
There are several types of bequests from which you can select, and we recommend you consult your own attorney. If it would be of help, we know of some local legal advisors who regularly include gift-making in their practices. |
|
Although A Touch of Understanding chooses not to be a United Way affiliate at this time, you can still donate through the United Way or Combined Federal Campaign by writing A Touch of Understanding Inc., on your pledge sheet. |

The Need
"I am more concerned with the way other children treat my son than I am about the disability itself" said a mother of a boy with mental retardation.
-
A young man with Cerebral Palsy said that a fellow student approached him while in high school, and said, "I didn't know they allowed retards in here!"
-
A third grader hides behind a dumpster during recess to avoid ridicule and abuse by his classmates.
The Reward
The benefits of this unique experience extend far beyond this brief session. It touches hearts.
-
"I admit that I made fun of some people that were disabled. From now on I'll try not to." (Student)
-
"You helped me understand why people have stuff like fake arms and legs...Now I have know how others might feel when they are being stared at ...Thank you" (Student)
-
"At a time when callous and cruel behavior is increasing in our schools, this message of respect and understanding deserves attention." (Volunteer Edwards Ennis)
-
"It's a win-win-win situation: Our volunteers love uniting with our students in fostering appreciation of mutual humanness; our audiences appreciate the opportunity to share and grow; and our volunteers have a special knack for nurturing each self and each other." (Volunteer JDD)
