“Gail and I have had the opportunity to assist in putting on workshops at elementary schools in our area. We always come away from these sessions with a sense of appreciation for the impact the program makes on impressionable young minds. These students are most receptive to the goals of the program, and one can see that they will take the lessons to heart.  In a similar way, an adult version of the program provided at the Evening of Insight gave participants an opportunity to live, if only for a blindfolded meal, in the shoes of someone with different abilities.  The large amount of money raised to support ATOU was very impressive and I believe it reflects the enthusiastic desire of the participants to support and expand the outreach efforts of ATOU.”

I was honored to participate as a table host at the 2022 ATOU Fundraiser, Evening of Insight and was looking forward to getting back out in the community after so much time spent at home.  What a spectacular event!  A very enthusiastic and generous audience, A fun and relaxed atmosphere but most of all, an inspiring mission.
As I guided blindfolded guest through a meal by an emcee who was herself blind, I was reminded how challenging it must be on a good day to navigate our world with a disability.  We are extremely fortunate to have ATOU as resource to educate the community on the need for inclusion of everyone.  We are not complete until all are welcomed, understood, and provided a safe environment to thrive.

“I was honored to host a table at ATOU’s Evening of Insight. It provided a chance for guests to “walk in someone’s shoes” for a brief time. It was a great learning moment for me and my table guests as we grew in empathy and understanding as to the challenges that people who are sight impaired deal with every day. That is just one of the great accomplishments that ATOU provides. They provide disability awareness workshops to schools that are unprecedented in giving all students the chance to understand, accept and respect not only those with disabilities but all individuals. I hope that they ask me to participate again!”
